Why Yves Saint Laurent’s passing is so felt in fashion

Thanks for posting
[this is good]

Good Day Mr. Yan,

The House of Yves Saint Laurent was - to my understanding - one of the first to use African Models in print and runway, and one of the first to dress women in pants. I may be wrong. Yet, it was his early work as the creative visionary at Dior in the late 50's that began to reshape the "New Look", and create a strong "Fashion Label."

Today we call Labels "Brands", and beyond the challange of producing strong economic returns for a Fashion House -- Yves Saint Laurent was a creator of great range. His ability to engage the market was as Mr. Yan said, all without the help of brand experts. Seems, he understood the consumers, and the era. He, Andy Warhol and a few others helped usher the Pop experience into the realm of American art+economics, and culture.

Still, he had a personal side---some judge, others like myself simply look at the wonderful legacy of style that Yves Saint Laurent gave to the world. From the urban streets, to the catwalks of the world; most around the world understand the name Yves Saint Laurent, a man that helped an era of people embrace the notion of looking and dressing well, style. And, the masses wanted that [YSL] on their backs.

Great post Mr. Yan...thank you!

You are so right, Bill. Thank you, and Timothy, for your comments.
I believe YSL was the first to break the race barrier, and he was indeed the first major name in France to dress women in slacks. Go anywhere in the world and his initials are completely recognized.
